This was my first 1084 billet shaped, forged, and tempered. I actually call it the Frankenstein, because the grip is an amalgam of black walnut and leftover pieces of G10, micarta and brass. I learned quite a bit on this one, and while the steel is not perfect (it required a double-quench), it sharpened beautifully and is an exceptional kitchen knife. I also found that the extended finger space in the grip near the blade became a new standard on at least some of my French Chefs.
