I celebrated the demise of 2016 and the birth of 2017 in a manner outside what has been a very long-standing norm for me and New Year’s Eves. I found myself in remarkable new environs with fantastic new people. I watched dolphins play just offshore. I saw pelicans spike the water for their daily sustenance. I listened to the wind and felt the rain. I contemplated the past, present and future–explored the depths within and patterns in the wash.
I find myself nearing the end of my latest project, my first media tie-in for the Colt the Outlander universe. I find myself researching the success and business-philosophy of a contemporary YA author whose career I would like to emulate. There are projects to complete and others to plan. There are marvelous things on the horizon for me from a writing perspective, and major targets to hit.
It is my sincere hope that 2017 holds at least one or two major successes as well as a daisy chain of smaller ones. I have new short stories planned and fresh markets to tap. And as always I’ll need help along the way.
So, on that note, I’d like to thank every single one of my friends, fans, and supporters (far too many to name) for helping me along and occasionally propping me up as I continue to navigate this madcap notion of a writing career. I wish to sincerely wish you all the very best New Year for each and every one of you. 2016 had it’s ups and downs… successes and failures… and a litany of lessons learned. I will be turning 2017 into a year of determination and self actualization. I’ve been putting pieces into place for six years now, and it’s time for me to start capitalizing on them, leveraging them to take my game to the next level and pursue a new definition of my own existence.
It’s a tall order, but I truly feel like now is the time. The iron is hot and the hammer rests firmly in my own hand. It’s up to me to swing it and turn pig-iron into forged steel.
So that’s what I’m going to do.
Here’s to a flawless 2017 for all of us. You. Me. Them. Everybody. Everybody.
