My step-son wanted a seax for camping and hunting, so I offered to make him one as a gift. he’d also be my guinea pig on my first full custom derived from a farrier’s rasp that he found in a country thrift store.
I learned a lot on this one and am stoked about the final product. Both the blade and the sheath turned out better than I expected. The blade is a full internal tang with cross-pins set inside a black walnut grip and G10 spacers. The guard is brass, and I got the balance just right on this one. It’s comfortable to hold and swing, without too much nose-weight.
The sheath allows for a straight up and down hip carry with a leg strap as well as a cross-draw like a short-sword, and I added an integrated sheath for his flint.
