The Andromeda Initiative – Personal Log 20161216.07.59

There’s only one game possessed of such deep story telling that it ever brought me to tears. Who else remembers the fall of Mordin Solus? It is with great anticipation, therefore, that I await the arrival of Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Yes, I joined the Andromeda Initiative. Yes, I’ve watched both briefings available thus far. And yes, I am already enthralled by what they’ve presented in these briefings as well as the gameplay videos avaialable.

I grew up reading great science fiction. The list includes authors like Ursula K. Le Guin, Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and many more. I always enjoyed the science of science fiction, but what appealed to me most was the excitement of epic stories coupled with the discovery of new worlds and the alien cultures that populate them.

I think that’s one of the greatest strengths of the Mass Effect franchise. It put the exploration of the galaxy in the palm of our hands, and it weaved throughout that exploration a compelling story line and endearing characters as memorable as any in the greatest science fiction classics of our age.

So, here I stand, on the verge of plunging into a detailed vision of the Andromeda galaxy centuries in the future, and I feel like a kid again, thrilled by the possibilities of discovery that lie ahead. The teams over at Electronic Arts, BioWare, and Frostbite clearly have outdone themselves, if the Mission Training Briefings and game play videos are any indication. I can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with, and I’m as excited to discover the Andromeda Galaxy as I was to discover every new book in my favorite series The Many Colored Land by Julian May.

I hope to see you out there, and stay tuned for more personal logs like this as I delve deeper into the next brainchild of Bioware.
