I don’t normally do this many posts in such a short amount of time, but it’s been a busy first quarter of 2020 (in this case regarding my writing, not everything else that’s been going on).
Since the beginning of the year, I’ve had novelettes appear in two Chris Kennedy Publishing (CKP) anthologies. The first was military science fiction, and the second is full-blown fantasy. Both represent new universes that I’ll be writing in once I get past this year’s writing schedule, which includes between three and five novels. I also have three more novelettes coming out in different CKP anthologies by mid-year, including a Peacekeeper story, a repraisal of my first Four Horsemen Universe novelette involving Hu’s Hawks, , and another Vorwhol novelette from Kevin Steverson’s Salvage Title universe. Keep an eye out for those announcements.
The first story this year, “Miranda’s Last Dance,” was the lead story in the anthology The Dogs of God. It features a crotchety, old farmer on a colony world who has to face down a band of corporate pirates who what to take what isn’t theirs. It’s a powered armor universe, and I had a blast writing it. The best part is that I’ll have a new novel coming out this year set in the same universe, and that one features powered armor and psionics.
The second story is entitled “A Fistful of Silver: A Guardians of Pelinon Novelette.” It appears in the anthology When Valor Must Hold. I basically tried to channel Roger Zelazny’s Corwin of Amber, Steven Brust’s Vlad Taltos, Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher, and Dashiell Hammett’s Sam Spade, all rolled into one bad ass fighter mage. Rellen, the main character, must solve a gruesome chain of serial killings and uncovers a demonic plot to take over an entire city.
If you like novelette-length fiction, then either one of these should be a tasty addition to your library. I hope you enjoy reading them both as much as I enjoyed writing them.
As always, once you read these great anthologies, please feel free to leave a review up on Amazon. It’s reviews that help authors keep going.
Cheers!
